Ray was friends with most of the Fluxus artists beginning in the late 50's and early 60's- before the group even had a name. Ray was often seen at various downtown events in those early days of Fluxus, Pop art, Happenings, the Judson Church, the Living Theatre, etc., often exhibiting with, and corresponding with, but never joining any of those groups.
