Ray sent me this response to a letter in 1991. He focused in on my statement "Art is a dead concept," and my inclusion of a "heart" image, changing it to "he-arf is a dead concept." Ray's work always had at least two meanings or correspondences, usually more. I wonder now if this was an oblique reference to his own death three years later....
